Small Business Basics 101

Here is a quick and simple checklist for you to consider when planning to start or get involved in a business opportunity:


* Start From Where You Are!
- Take a personal inventory of your skills, talents, likes and dislikes that can affect your choices of business opportunities. For example, do you like being out and meeting new people or, do you prefer to be in a stable location and not have to talk directly with prospective customers.
- make a list of "transferable skills" that you have developed from other jobs or training. List the ones that you may need for the "Biz Op" you are considering.

* Only Accept The Biz Op That Meets Your Requirements!
- So often we have been conditioned to accept the "job position" that accepted us. Surveys have been done that show an incredible 80 % of college educated working people ARE NOT working in the field that was their Major or 1st Career Choice! Instead, many people accepted the first job that accepted them!
- With a new Business, it is even more important that you choose wisely! In your business, it is all about YOU! You will be getting married to it. You will live, eat and breath it everyday. The business you choose is YOUR RESPOSIBILITY, not someone else's. So, be very picky and set up your list of "Pros & Cons" for each Biz Op you investigate.

* Set your Benchmarks for yourself and your Biz Op.
- If the business idea is good for you but, the average income of business people in that Biz Op is lower than your Income Benchmark, look carefully at what is needed to achieve your income goal or, look elsewhere!
- We all have some level of conditioning to expect reward for the things that we do. From the time we were little girls & boys and our parents gave us praise or other forms of compensation for a job well done, we have developed a sense of value or self worth.
- It is extremely important to establish YOUR Self Worth in your Business! This point has many applications that can be explored over time. It comes in handy where you have to make Time Management decisions. For example, is it worth your time value for you to be doing a certain function of your business or, is it better to pay someone else to that function while you work on those things that are vital for you to do in your business!? Simply put, if you value your time at say, $50 an hour. How much time should you spend doing chores in your business that are worth $10 an hour that could be paid to an assistant and free you to maximize your $50 an hour work. That will maximize your Income to time spend!

Any system or so called solution that encourages Politicians, Insurance Companies, Wall Street or any other industry to "take advantage of our own people to satisfy the insatiable Greed," can not be allowed to stand.  We have seen clear evidence that, GREED IS NOT GOOD!
We can do better!  We can structure a system where Wealth is accumulated from the benefit we can provide to the Human Condition!  It is time for a paradigm shift that is based on a simple teaching that was given to Human Kind over 2000 years ago, "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do unto You!"  The Politicians have the best Health Care Plans in the USA.  If they followed the "Golden Rule," we would all have Universal Health Care like the one that they enjoy!  Isn't it about time we stop the lies and start with The Truth!  I mean the real Truth that we are our Sisters' & Brothers' Keepers!

New to Twitter - and Hooked

Can an affiliate marketer, in 140 characters or less entice a reader to check out their product or service? One day, just out of curiosity, I went to the Twitter website. Nothing fancy here. Seemed simple enough. I registered. As part of the process a list of my contacts from my Yahoo list who are on Twitter was presented. Nice feature. I decided to "follow" most of them. Then, the unexpected happened.


I started getting email notices of people who elected to follow ME. Wow! I had built a very basic entry. Not much in the Twitter profile. Just a couple of my areas of interest. Did not put in my blog address. Yet somehow I popped up on the radar. And I was thoroughly impressed with who opted in to follow me. Some had their own huge following of thousands, even tens of thousands. They had very professional sites. The kind of people that I would want to follow. So I opted in to follow them.

Then came the TWEETGLIDE. Oh man, a new app for organizing my tweets and a way to market to others for free. Add to that a promo where they pay for the best site reviews... An affiliate friendly site. Wonderful! When I read the Terms of Use for Craigslist I was disheartened at their banning people selling affiliate products. Weird! Whether it is my personal belonging in my house that I'm selling or an item that is provided by a dropshipper, what difference does it make? Either way, the consumer is buying what they want.

I like Twitter and will continue to use it to not only build my affiliate business and network of professional contacts. I will use it to build my knowledge in various niches in short, "bite size" portions.

Thus far I have only posted my coyote fur and leather coat eBay auction. Next will be Clickbank products. Stay tuned.

Now, the next logical step in my adventure is answering the questions - What Do I Sell Online?  Unless you have a warehouse handy, most likely (like me) you want to be able to simply direct willing and able buyers to companies that have the products, will ship the products, and will pay you for providing the traffic to their doorstep.

In my personal search for things to sell, I have come across quite a few; more than I initially expected.  During all those years I spent working in an office, the Internet world was busily putting together what is now quite a system for building an online business.  But you have to go beyond the mindset that "If you build it, they will come."  So, here is another useful article.  Only drawback is needing to find out more about Google Adwords on your own/from another source.

Make Easy Money From Home With Amazon

To make easy money from home with this method, all you need to do is sign up for an Amazon Affiliate account and a Google AdWords account. Now, before you get any silly ideas, I will tell you up front that this way to make money does not require very much of your own money to be successful. Let's get started.


The next step in the easy money making process is to find some popular items that people purchase. To do this, I use the keyword discovery tool. You can find this tool by searching Google for it. What this excellent tool does is show you how popular a search term is. You will need to think of some items that people buy online frequently to get started. Think about new electronics that are hot, new home products like vacuums or kid's toys that are hot, or home appliances that are new and popular. Once you have a list of the items, plug those into the search tool and make sure you select the most popular ones. Try to accumulate a list of about 20 items.

The next step to succeed with this method of making easy money from home is to set up your AdWords campaign. I will assume, in explaining this, that you are familiar with AdWords. Create a new campaign for each category of product you have in your list. Set up your campaign budget.

When you create your ad, you MUST include these things in the wording of your ads: Exact product name/model, exact price that it costs on Amazon, and a way to tell the buyers that they are clicking that ad to purchase the item. This will ensure that the people clicking on your ad want to buy that product.

Creating a list of keywords is quite simple. You want to include your product name with model number in all the variations you can think of and with the word BUY added. Let's say your product is an 8 GB iPod Touch. Your keywords would be 8gb iPod touch, buy 8gb iPod touch, iPod touch 8gb, buy iPod touch 8gb, iPod touch 8g, buy iPod touch 8g, etc. Then you want to add keywords that you DO NOT want your ads to come up for, such as Review, Rating, Information. To disinclude these items, add them to your keywords like this: -review, -rating, -information. This will weed out all of the potential people that would click on your ad but not purchase. For keywords like these, you will not have much competition. This means you should be able to pay anywhere from .10 to .75 per click and get plenty of clicks.

For the display url, you can put amazon.com. For the actual URL, you want to get the link from your Amazon Affiliate account. You want the link that is directly to that product.

How to Find A Niche - Yet Still Stay True To YOUR Interests

How to find a niche?  What do I market?  Yes, I want to make money (who doesn't?) but I REALLY want it to be within an area of interest to ME.  One major reason to pursue one's own business is to do what one enjoys, right?

In my personal "how-to" search I can across an article that speaks to me in ways that other articles and books have not.  So I make this the first entry in my new blog for two reasons, to share the steps that I'm taking to building my online business as it happens, and to save the article for my future reference.

Niche Sniping - The Secret to Finding Killer Niches to Infiltrate & Dominate As an Affiliate

To be successful in making money with Affiliate Marketing, you need to narrow a market into a niche, or micro niche so you can successfully compete in the search engines against your competitors. One of the key things to keep in mind while searching for a niche you'd like to market to, is do you enjoy the topic. If you are bored to tears with the niche or market, it will be very difficult to produce the content you will need to compete in the market.


When I start looking for a new niche I use several different places to get my creative juices flowing. The first place I look is on Amazon, looking at the different categories of magazines, looking at the specialty magazines in each area. Looking at the titles of articles on popular magazines can also give you a clue to possible niches. If a specialty topic has several magazines, you have a pretty good guess that it has readers who are willing to spend money.

Another place I find very useful to explore is eBay's hot products, by using the eBay Pulse. With eBay Pulse, I can drill down through categories and see what products are selling, which can give me clues to what people are buying and what problems they are trying to solve. Even drilling down through a huge market like shoes, you can often find a niche product that you can build a successful affiliate marketing campaign for.

I have a few friends who have good success watching the various search engine spies, and popular searches lists to find what people are searching for, and then drilling down in that market to find a smaller niche they can quickly build a site for. I still prefer using eBay and Amazon for my research, at least I know the people there are prepared to spend money.

Perhaps the greatest resource is your eyes and ears as you shop in local stores and malls. Watch what people are buying, listen to what they talk about. What is exciting people today? What are they complaining about? What are they telling their friends they can never find? What kinds of problems are they trying to solve? It is a good idea to keep a small notebook and pen with you at all times to jot down any ideas you hear. If you're visiting a hardware store, and you keep hearing the same questions about "How do I", then you know it is a potential market.

The big thing to remember as you are trying to choose a niche to make money with affiliate marketing, almost every market has micro-niches you can successfully make profits in. When you start considering a mega-market like dieting, you can keep chunking it down, into smaller and smaller categories until you find an under served group of people, and then produce sites to market to them.

Finding great niches is just a matter of taking time to look, listen, and explore the desires people have, and then finding a way to help them fulfill those desires, and solve their problems. When you learn to find good micro niches, you'll be well on your way to making great money with affiliate marketing.
